"Are you capable of having rocks?" - Issue 40

Apologies that I didn’t get a newsletter out last week. It was a busy week with lots of client sessions & with Jen still being away in Korea, I had to do all the Integrator & admin work too, so I just ran out of time. I was going to do it on the weekend & then realised that this didn’t fit in with my version of my #EOS Life, which is having time to pursue other passions.

For me, this means that my weekends are usually pretty sacred. I want to use those 2 days to spend time with my family & friends, cycle, walk, read & other things.

Don’t get me wrong, I truly love my work & I would probably happily work whenever I need to but I have been reminded by Steve that sometimes my work is all-consuming & he appreciates it when I give him proper, undivided attention.

So, instead, I left it & thought that you would forgive me at this time of the year ??

I am back into the swing again now & hope you like what I have pulled together for this newsletter. It was written on Friday by me & published by Jen from Korea ??

BETTER BUSINESS:?No rocks for Visionaries

I have done a number of Focus Days & Self-Implementer days over the past 2 weeks. They’re always fun but challenging days as we work through the structure of the organisation & start to define accountabilities that may have never been set or have become very blurred over time.

In both of these sessions we solidify the company’s Accountability Chart & understand the role of the Visionary in the Organisation. There’s usually a sense of excitement when the Visionary understands their seat is a real role & a huge sense of relief from the rest of the organisation that the Visionary will now be managed by the Integrator ??

As a Visionary myself, I love other Visionaries – I get who they are & why they act the way that I do. But I also understand the challenges that other people in the organisation have with us.

And that’s why I tend to agree with Mark Winters, in this article , when he says that if the Visionary only holds the visionary seat & not another role in the Accountability Chart then he or she should not have any rocks?

Why? Because most are simply incapable of focusing on something that intently for that long.?

If you’re a Visionary then your ears have probably picked up & you might like to read this article so that you can explain to the rest of the team why you’re not taking on any rocks.

If you’re in another seat on the accountability chart & think, ‘that doesn’t seem right – I thought EOS was about everyone having rocks’, then you too should take a look & learn the benefits of not giving a Visionary rocks.

BETTER LIFE:?Live your Values…

One of the things that Steve & I have found valuable is to do our EOS Family Plan. To do this, we’ve had to consider what our shared values are.

We’ve always know that despite huge difference in personality & the way that we engage & interact, we fundamentally share some core values.

But we’ve never articulated them or written them down.

To help with this process, we bought ourselves a Values Deck.

Like a deck of cards but with a selection of values, description & ideas about how you can bring them more into your life.

This deck has 73 core values that you can sort in terms of:

·??????What matters most to me

·??????Matters some to me

·??????Doesn’t matter to me

Once you’ve done this you work through the process to get to you 10 core values. Steve & I didn’t have one single card in common in the 10 we each picked, but there are plenty of synonyms, so in fact we did have the same intent.

Now all we have to do is agree on the word that we use for our 5 core values & write the descriptions.

It’s a really great tool that also creates some interesting discussion. One of Steve’s picks was ‘Kindness’. Turns out I have a distinct dislike of this word (since before Jacinda overused it) for some very historic reasons but when we discussed what Steve meant by it, it turns out that we considered the word ‘Respect’ to be more appropriate – something we both agree on.

FIND OF THE WEEK: Laptop LED light for glasses wearers

Don’t you hate it when you’re having a zoom call with someone & you can’t really see their face?

Well just recently I have been discovering that as I do early morning or late evening calls around the world at home, with the daylight sunshine, all my spots in my house for video calls seem to be backlit from light streaming in through the windows. This leaves me creating what I hate.

I did buy a mini ring light, but being a glasses wearer, this just left bright, glowing rings in the centre of my eyes. Plus trying to get it close enough on a tripod just wasn’t working.?

So this week I treated myself to a suction cup square LED light that attached itself to the back of your laptop. It has adjustable brightness & colour temperature too.
