You Can't Turn Back The Clock...

You Can't Turn Back The Clock...

That's what my client said when someone suggested she do what she did prior to being on Google.

That sounds great in theory, but to some companies trying to switch back to the days of print advertising, radio, TV and direct mail when they've gotten used to "showing up" on Google isn't a viable option.

Online marketing has made it so simple to just click a button and have an instant ad running. Compare that to the days before digital simplicity and you would wait weeks to see if your ad worked.

Going back isn't an option.

But what happens when Google decides that they don't like you, and refuse to display your listing? What do you do?

If you're like 99% of the entrepreneurial population you scream, you panic, you scramble to find a number to call Google (which let me tell ya, is not easy), then you panic some more.

Now you might be thinking why are these people just on Google, why not anywhere else?

Well they should be on other places like: Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Yelp, Instagram, YouTube.

And they should also be contributing blog articles to their website, sending emails to their subscriber opt-ins and utilizing mobile texting and chat bot messaging services.

Unfortunately, for most small businesses they don't have time to post to social media, or write articles, or send out emails. And to blasting out texts or chat messages is just not in the marketing tool box for some.

So they rely on Google and hope that the search engine god will never let them down.

It's hard to fathom that out of hundreds of millions of listings your company would be singled out by Google.

"Poof"

Gone.

Just. Like. That.

And since you don't control Google, your digital existence is at their mercy.

So in hindsight...utilizing those other options like social media, email, text and chat to compliment your marketing would have been the ideal solution.

But you didn't!

It was all Google.

Now it's all gone.

Can't turn back the clock.

Nope, you can't. That's now in the past.

But you can start over.

Yeah, I know, it's a bitch.

But it is what it is.

Move forward.

Utilize all the strategies at your disposal.

Don't rely on just one.

And don't forget about the phone.

Yeah, I know it's a novel concept - that thing you use all day long to communicate with your friends and family could actually be that very thing that gets you business.

Call your past clients.

One's who haven't done business with you in a year and say "Hi". You'd be amazed at how many will hire you again.

Start asking existing clients for referrals. Heck run a referral contest and you'll be overwhelmed with more clients than you can handle.

Send out reminder cards, thank you notes, personal video emails and voice messages.

And if someone say's "I can't find you on Google"

...just laugh and say...

"I have so much business I don't need Google!"
