YOU CAN’T STOP THE WAVES BUT YOU CAN LEARN TO SURF

This is a great metaphor to help manage your thoughts and inner peace I learnt whilst training as a mindfulness coach.
We have around 60,000 thoughts racing through our minds every day and it’s easy to get caught up in them. Think of these thoughts as waves. Some can drown you!
Being mindful is like surfing the waves – it helps you to deal with, manage and control your thoughts.
Thoughts are virtual reality. They’re like mini movies based on representations of our living world. ?They are videos, photographs, sounds, smells. They’re not the same thing as living reality.
Surfing your waves of thoughts gives you the ability to use their power to your advantage. You decide the waves to ride, to get you where you want to go.
Rather than trying to stop the waves… recognise them, allow them, investigate them, nurture them. Do this regularly and you become calmer. You start to respond to events that happen to you, not react. You have learnt to surf!
In the words of the Beach Boys, Catch a wave and you'll be sittin' on top of the world.
