This morning here in Middle Tennessee, we continue to flirt with Winter, with a high of 41 degrees F, which isn’t cold but if I can’t wear shorts and a tank top, its too cold. So this morning its quite easy to rationalize a rather large, hot cup of organic Indonesian coffee and Volcano vaporized Tennessee homegrown double distilled Cannabis extract flavored with just a smidgen of terpenes. Lee Crabtree keeps getting better at formulating our cartridges. So as the Caffeine and Cannabinoids kick in, we’ll get this word fest going. As a side note, yours truly was recently accused of being “stoned” while writing and all I could say was, thank you for noticing. Meanwhile in the wacky world of Cannabis, the more Cannabis changes the more it stays the same. Case in note, Ohio (that recently legalized Recreational Cannabis by vote) the Republican state legislators are trying to gut their new law by passing whole gang of restrictions, like you can’t share your stash with friends. All I can say is good luck on that Ohio. But this is a symbol of the pushback that is occurring all over the U.S. I’m not sure people know this but even with half of population in the U.S. living in Recreational states, last year the amount of arrests for Cannabis in this country increased because of the proliferation of Black Market Cannabis. Let us take the curious case of Virginia, where Recreational Cannabis was legalized in 2021 but two years later, you can’t legally buy or sell Recreational Cannabis. So people in Washington D.C. (same situation) and Virginia drive to Maryland buy Cannabis and drive back or participate in one of largest Cannabis Black Markets in the country. Speaking of incredible large Cannabis Black Markets, New York, New York. NYC has a population of about 8 million and as of this writing there are less that 100 Recreational Cannabis stores in the city. That’s a King Hell Cannabis market that being almost totally being fed by Cannabis from other states or illicit instate grows. One could understand a large Cannabis Black Market in those states where Recreational remains illegal but no so much in Recreational States. So why is the Cannabis Black Market larger now than ever? The Old Hemp Farmer thinks the answer is pretty simple, legal cannabis is expensive and quite often stores few and far between with a plethora of communities banning sales. It’s a simple law of physics that states, eventually all vacuums will be filled. If there is a demand for a certain type of Cannabis in a certain price range, eventually somebody will be there to sell it to them. Which steers yours truly back to his home base of Tennessee.

As you know, I’ve been sharing my observations of the de facto Recreational Cannabis Market in Tennessee that has existed pretty well unfettered the last couple of years. Presently in the Volunteer state, Incredible amounts and varieties high of THC flower are available throughout the state of Tennessee. Even jaded Cannabis professionals like myself have been totally amazed with quality of high THC flower and the vast array of establishments that sell it. You got love any store, where you can fill your gas tank, get a large Hunts Brother Pizza, a six pack of Tall Boys and an eighth of Gorilla Glue #4 and put it all on your credit card. Which sounds like a good start on a party but as Prince said “parties are meant to last”. Presently there are those in the Tennessee state house and law enforcement that want to crack down on free market Cannabis and there’s a very good chance they will reign in high THCa flower. The Old Hemp Farmer thinks there’s also a probability that they will try and “drop the hammer” on THC carts and dabs, as well. I know there’s a gang of Cannabis folks that think this will never happen because of the revenue raised with the Cannabis Excise tax, but I wouldn’t be so sure. What can be given with a stroke of a pen, can be taken away with a stroke of a pen. But at this point, I’m not sure restricting high THC flower will make a difference. It's hard to get the Genie back in the bottle and now in the state of Tennessee there is a couple hundred million dollar plus Cannabis flower market. If those in the state government think they can greatly restrict the high THC flower market in this state they are greatly mistaken. If the high THC flower demand isn’t filled legally it will be filled illegally. And the last time I checked Black Market Cannabis doesn’t pay Excise Tax. So let’s see if the Tennessee state government can exercise deductive reasoning and do the right thing, I mean anything is possible, isn’t it? Anyway as always, Hemp Dawgs and Hemp Puppies keep one eye on the weather and the other eye on the market.

I wouldn't put too much faith in a political assembly's collective capability in deductive reasoning even when sales taxes filling the coffers is involved. So many prohibitionists, especially down south, will cut off their nose to smite their face.

Good stuff. Yes, I’m entering your market and I’ve been told to be careful.
