YOU CAN’T RUN, THEN WALK!
Trekking is a term so many Nigerians find demeaning. People would rather hop in Keke (tricycles) or even take Okada (Motorcycles) than trek distances as short as 100m. And the scary part is this class of people is youngins, to them, it is refined.
I for one do not berate anyone's choices as to why they frown upon walking distances, I very much enjoy walking since as a photographer it gives me an opportunity to experience nature and people. Not many people engage in any form of exercise and still yet they fail to appreciate this basic form of exercise.
Below Are Some Benefits of Trekking:
Walking can bolster your mental health.
One of the ways where walking helps is in the strengthening of our mental health. A research review in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, states that there may be sufficient evidence to promote walking to prevent and treat conditions of anxiety and depression.” Several people will tell you that taking a walk has helped in stress relief.

Walking can improve your balance
For as simple as it seems, walking not only builds strength but also places a significant challenge on your brain and nervous system, improving your ability to stay upright. “That reciprocal movement with your arms and legs as you navigate different terrain like concrete, grass, gravel, and stuff in the road—being able to negotiate and navigate that is vital to maintaining long-term health and wellness.”
Walking can be a great way to bond with friends and family.
How often have had to go out for a walk? Sometimes a great way to kill loneliness and boredom is to take a walk with a friend or a family member. The little talks and chit-chats along the way can help strengthen bonds and relationships.
Walking provides a connection with nature.
This is my personal favorite. Walking gives you an opportunity to connect with your community and nature. ?Along with boosting creativity, walking in a park or near a body of water can make you feel more centered. When compared to a jaunt along a busy road, forest walking had significantly more significant psychological benefits, according to a Northwestern University study of 38 participants. Another larger study, in the aptly named journal Ecopsychology, found group nature walks were linked to fewer depressive symptoms, less stress, and an overall brighter mood. Walking offers a chance to act like a tourist in your own neighborhood, which is great if you’re still not traveling much these days. You might hit those outdoor attractions you never get a chance to check out or even discover a hidden gem.
Walking is healthy for your body, your vibe, and your spirit. If there is no pressing need to be somewhere early, try taking a walk. If you feel down, take a walk. By all means, take a walk.
