You Can't Let Go If You are Holding on Tight!
One of my clients, just for fun, is learning to drive an HGV.
If you hold on too tight to the steering wheel on a 12000 kg lorry you'll soon end up off the road. (The irony of holding on tight to maintain control, will have you unable to course correct when you are off course).
To let go, first we have to let go - and drop the illusion of being able to control the person, or process, or job we have delegated.
Do you remember as a kid trying to ride a bike with no hands on the handlebars? You probably crashed and burnt a few time until you learnt to relax and let go. The control of the direction only happened when you took your hands off.
Yes, of course it was scary. Letting go is. That's why we cling onto control - its much more comfortable.
