I love Chateauneuf du Pape wines...the GSM combination that are often found in these wines seems to go well with so many foods. My wife and I sometimes will go with Gigondas or Vacqueyras wines because they are similar but less expensive (if only we could afford Chateauneuf du Pape wines all the time).
Andrew Jefford writes a wonderful piece today about the "other Chateauneuf"...little-known Rh?ne village of Gadagne. In his piece Jefford describes the strong similar between the two in terms of terrior. So for someone who loves to find new wines this was very intriguing...I had never even heard of Gadagne. My first stop once I read the article was to see if I could find it on Wine Searcher...not on my first attempt but when I searched for the highest rated wine among those that Jefford recommended I did find it...and in all place only in Washington DC...the wine cost an amazing $14.99.
I can't wait to try these wines. There are only 6 growers and one cooperative so far but my bet is that as they become more well known that will change. Real wine lovers live for these kinds of discoveries!
