You Can’t Buy More Time, But You Can Make It Work for You

“I’d love to do it if I just had a bit more time.” I could be a millionaire if I got a dollar every time I’ve heard that from successful people.

We all have big plans in our professional lives—a promotion, learning something new, or starting a project. But we get stuck in the idea that we have to work harder to make things happen. After all, there’s no such thing as a free meal.

Here’s the thing: we confuse “hard work” with putting in long hours, even if we’re being dragged in a hundred different directions and never have time for the meaningful stuff.

Hard work should mean dedication. It’s about focusing on what truly matters to reach your goals.

Many leaders I talk to feel trapped in a cycle of busyness. They know they waste time, but they keep pushing for more hours to get things done. They realize something has to change, but they can’t find a moment to pause and think, so they stay stuck in the same routine.

The truth is, meaningful change doesn’t require huge shifts or endless time. It starts with a simple choice to reclaim those lost minutes. Small, consistent actions can create a ripple effect, bringing clarity and balance back into your life.

Here are three practical steps to help you start making time for what really matters:

  1. Embrace Reflection: Set aside a few moments each day to reflect on your priorities. What truly deserves your attention? By continually reflecting on your objectives and aligning your tasks with them, you’ll naturally prioritize what’s essential. Reflection doesn’t have to take long—just a few minutes of intentional thought can set a powerful direction for your day.
  2. Create a Focused Plan: Dedicate your limited time to crafting a focused plan for the week. Identify the top three tasks that will drive you closer to your goals. Break these down into manageable steps and allocate specific times to tackle them. A clear plan provides structure and helps eliminate distractions, allowing you to work smarter, not harder.
  3. Cultivate Mindfulness: Incorporate mindfulness practices into your routine. Taking just a few moments for deep breathing or a short meditation can help clear your mind and enhance your focus. This isn’t just about finding peace; it’s about keeping your energy high, so you can tackle the next tasks without stress.

The journey to reclaiming your time doesn’t need to be overwhelming. You can start with as little as 30 minutes a day to focus on your growth and well-being.

If you're looking for support on this journey, I’m running a 5-day challenge next week (and yes, it’s free). You can register here . It's a chance to join others on a similar journey and implement these principles in your own life.

See you soon,

Serena
