You cannot take on the weight of the world

You cannot take on the weight of the world

There is a lot of heaviness in the world right now, and unfortunately we tend to carry it on our shoulders.

In addition to work, family, friends, and other responsibilities we feel the weight of all that is wrong in the world on our shoulders.

This email is inspired by a piece of advice that Christine Tosi (pastry chef of Milk Bar) gave on a TV show: “within any given day in life, there should always be a moment where the weight of the world is just a little bit lighter on your shoulders.”

I’m not talking about the kind of deep work that we do to try and set boundaries with ourselves and not take on too much.

I’m talking about the small things that make us smile, and breathe, and feel just a little bit lighter. Even if it’s just for a moment.

Here are some of the things that make the weight of the world lighter for me:

  1. My water bottle. It keeps my cold drinks cold and my hot drinks hot. It’s also designed beautifully, and that blend of practicality and good design makes me just a little bit happier when I see it on my desk.
  2. Bullet Journaling. My bullet journal is command central for my life. While that may sound overwhelming, just the act of writing things down lets me exhale a little knowing that I don’t have to hold it all in my brain.
  3. Cute desk accessories. I spend a lot of time at my desk, and nothing gets me more stressed than having a messy workspace. I love to take it one step further and decorate my desk with calligraphy and hand-lettering pens, and other accessories. It makes me smile to see brightly colored things on my desk.

What are some of the small things in life that allow the weight of the world to seem just a bit lighter for you? Hit reply and let me know! I always enjoy hearing from you.

Stay bold,

Toya
