If You Cannot Control Your Emotions, You Cannot Control Your Team
Your emotions can be the biggest driving force to success. However, they can be the most significant reason behind your downfall as well.
When we talk about leadership, one thing is for sure - it brings with it a lot of responsibility. After all, when everyone looks up to you for inspiration, you cannot afford to be over-expressive. This is the reason that I always say - if you, as a leader, want to control your team, you need to keep your negative emotions under control.
Anger makes you lose control of things
Being positive makes you smarter, whereas being angry makes you look stupid - it’s as simple as that. I don’t think I need to give any examples here - we have experienced how anger leads us to make bad decisions only to regret later.
When you are leading a business, a team, or an organization, there’s no scope for impulsive decisions. You need to keep a calm head always and then treat the situation. Sadly our negative emotions overpower our brain, and we end up making the wrong decision.

Not only does it harm business, but it also damages the team
The worst thing about negative emotions is that they lead to a build of toxicity in the environment. When the people working with you see your anger and frustration, they are bound to get impacted. And this might lead to a downfall in their productivity.
Maintain balanced emotions if you want to lead a team successfully
Whether it is anger or joy, whether it is frustration or merriment, you need to know how to maintain the right balance in expressing them as a leader. Too much of everything is bad, especially if we talk about emotions. Expressing too much joy might make the team carefree and careless, whereas too much anger might make them afraid and stressed.
Be their knight in shining armor
No one likes to work with a team leader, manager, or leader who always keeps yelling at them. Nor does anyone appreciate a leader who is always too stressed about everything. Since, as a leader, you have to shoulder the responsibility of building a team, you need to be careful when expressing negative emotions in front of the team.
This is the reason they say that leadership can be lonely at times. But, trust me - if you are able to control your emotions, you will be able to build a winning team - and it will all be worth it in the end!!!

4 年What about showing vulnerability and that even leaders are humans and can sometimes have negative emotions too? Maybe modelling how to control and coaching (aka mutual learning to shared goals) could make teams connect at a more personal and thus more functionally meaningful level
