You Can Write a Book. Yes, You!

You Can Write a Book. Yes, You!

I hear it all the time: “I’d love to write a book, but I have no idea how.”

Maybe you have an idea for a business book. Maybe you’d love to have a book to promote your speaking services. Maybe you’d like to write a book about your childhood.

Whatever it is, if your non-fiction book idea keeps nudging you, what are you waiting for?

Writing a book is easier than it sounds. Seriously. If you can talk, you can write. You just have to create a plan and then stick with it until your book is a reality.

Here are a few tips for getting started on your book project:

  • Sit down and do a brain dump of all the subjects you’d like to cover in your book. Write down everything that comes to mind.
  • Go through your list and circle 12-15 things that stand out or that you know the most about. These are the chapters of your book.
  • Create a weekly schedule and write one chapter a week. Don’t worry about making it sound perfect. Just get it down on paper. You can edit/rewrite later. If you’re a better talker than writer, no problem. Most word-processing software (Word, Pages, etc.) offers dictation.
  • Once you have a first draft of each chapter, then you can go back and edit or add additional info where necessary.
  • Hire an experienced editor to make sure your manuscript is error-free.

And there you have it. In as little as 3-4 months, you could be holding your finished book in your hands. After that, all you have to do is hire someone to do the text layout and cover design. Doesn’t sound too difficult, right?

Like I said, what are you waiting for? You can do this!
