Three key points of use
What were your reasons for implementing the system?
We have known that 3D CAD has been available from Toray Advanced Computer Solution (Toray ACS) for 10 years, although at the time we felt that the time had not yet come for 3D to be used. However, we recently heard that some of our business partners had introduced 3D software to their sales teams, which made us realise that the 3D era had arrived. We decided to give it a try when we replaced CREACOMPO? with CREACOMPOⅡ.
When we first started using PATTERN MAGIC?Ⅱ3D, there were some patterns where the 3D fitting results were not as clean as they could be. When we worked on the toile, it was not as clean?as it should be. This led us to trust that PATTERN MAGICⅡ3D could reproduce the toile.
How do you use it?
Toile check for larger sizes
We have received requests to make patterns not only for size 9 to size 21 but also for size 15.
As for size 15, it is difficult to imagine the result as the master size and silhouette change. If you have 10 items, it takes about a month to complete the work. If the garments are outerwear or interlined, it would be even more difficult...
So, we created a size 15 in 3D using PATTERN MAGICⅡ3D and tried to fit the graded pattern to it, and the result was that we were able to fit it as cleanly as the actual garment.
Share your images with designers using 3D images
For the first two designs, we showed our business partners' designers the photos of the actual toile and the 3D images together. The designers realised that the 3D images were the same as the actual toile. After that, we did not have to make the size 15 toile, and only had to check the 3D image, which saved us a lot of time.
Easily check the look and fit
Toile fitting is incredibly hard work, sometimes taking a whole day. It is even harder to sew both sides of the body.
Recently, there have been a lot of skirts with large silhouettes with gathers and bumps. PATTERN MAGICⅡ3D allows the pattern maker to see the right look and right fit.
The other advantage is that you can put on an inner and outer dress and see the balance. If you have a camisole-type underdress, you can check whether the camisole is visible or not at the armhole, adjust the length of the shoulder straps and see it immediately in 3D. If you try to do this with the real garment, you have to prepare a simplified body, so it takes a lot of time, whereas, with PATTERN MAGICⅡ3D, you can try on a garment in about 15 minutes.
It is also very convenient to modify the collar and check the complicated ruffles around the chest and the crotch of the trousers.

How long did it take you to master PATTERN MAGICⅡ3D?
It was enough to learn how to use the system by attending a one-day training session with support staff from Toray ACS. Our in-house staff were able to use it with just the manual. I think anyone who can use PATTERN MAGICⅡ can use it, with a little getting used to it.
What do you think of PATTERN MAGICⅡ3D?
PATTERN MAGICⅡ3D has many useful applications in a pattern maker's work.
I think the software will become more and more indispensable for pattern makers in the future, although there are some functional aspects that I would like to improve.
To use PATTERN MAGICⅡ3D effectively, the designers also need to get used to 3D images, so I recommend showing them both the actual item and the 3D image at the beginning.
