You can Seek but will you find?
With over 70% of employees considering changing jobs, it's odd that so many advertised jobs are going unfilled.
For 20 years, advertising on Seek has been most internal and external recruiters' first choice for finding candidates... they may tell you otherwise but I think we all know that it's an incredibly useful resource.
In mid 2021 the model seems to have finally broken. Seek is experiencing the highest number of ad posts in its 20 year history and application numbers are at record lows. LinkedIn is not fairing much better.
If people are "considering their options" but not applying to adverts it seems that the direct approach / headhunting / using your network or whatever you call it is now more relevant than ever.
The difference between now and a couple of years ago is that the direct approach is needed for all jobs - not just the top tier and really niche roles.
What's my advice to clients? Hit up your specialist recruiters and ask them to get on the phone and find you some staff because, if you're waiting on advert response, good luck!
The market is segmenting - the mass market cookie cutter roles may still be filled by Seek, but roles that require unique/differentiatable skills e.g. asset manager roles that require an ability to add alpha rather than hug/replicate the index would need a specialists
