IF YOU CAN SEE THIS, YOU'RE LAST

I recently participated in a few days of RAGBRAI. If you're not familiar with it, this is a week-long bike ride that starts on the very west end of Iowa and goes all the way east. Depending on the year it's about 450 miles, and you can do 1 day or all. This year I was riding and struggling on a particular hill when I saw the rider in front of me. On the back of their jersey it said, “If you can see this, you’re last”. You bet as soon as I saw that my legs started pedaling faster because there was NO way I was going to be last up that hill.
?This made me think. What is it that makes us drive harder motivates us pushes us past what we think we're capable of? Is it simply because we don't want to be last or we want to be the first, or just really dang good.
It is important to understand what drives you.? I ask this question every time I interview someone.? For me, I am driven to be better than I was the day before.? Learn something I didn’t know, and create things that help others grow.? That hill was my opportunity to be better than I was, and of course, not be last.
I encourage you to find what drives you.

3 年I believe not wanting to be last, as well as wanting to be first, are both great motivators. And also think striving to improve 1% every day is powerful and seldom underrated. Finding the best timing for each is the key. Nice provocation, Katherine Van Gheem! I guess it was a good ride. ??????
