You Can Save a Life
When I donated at my local Red Cross Blood Donation Center, I was surprised to learn that my blood would be given to babies in need. I know my O-negative is a universal blood type, so it can be used for patients when their blood type is unknown.
But I found out my blood has special antibodies that allow it to go to babies, particularly those born prematurely. Both of my children were preemies, so now I'm super motivated to donate more regularly!
If you're healthy and want to donate, please contact the American Red Cross and set up an appointment. Most blood drives at churches, schools and community centers have been canceled due to Covid-19, so the Donation Centers are busy. It took me three weeks to get in, but it's worth it if you feel the need to help. I had to wear a mask, and all the donation stations were spaced apart for social distancing. Everyone I met was extremely friendly and thanked me for taking the time to donate. I was in and out in about an hour because I used the Rapid Pass to answer questions online prior to my appointment.
Now is the time for you to help if you can. Contact the American Red Cross and help save a life.
