You Can Receive Revelation from God, Today

Jesus’s Apostle Peter Confirms What Others have Said

Peter, who was present when Jesus gave the teaching in Mark 4, and when he commended Mary’s choice, later wrote the following:

(2 Peter 1:19 MKJV) We also have a more sure Word of prophecy, to which you do well to take heed, as to a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the Daystar arises in your hearts.

Now we will look at the same passage from the Aramaic in Plain English translation:

(2 Peter 1:19 APE) And we have also the true word of prophecy, upon which you do well to gaze, as at a lamp that shines in a dark place, until the day will shine and the Sun (Daystar) will rise in your hearts.

Through the apostle Peter, the Holy Spirit confirms the way we need to operate in God’s kingdom. He too says to focus on God’s written word—gazing at it, meditating on it, pondering it, and paying full attention to it—until revelation comes. Peter says that the written word is like a small “lamp that shines in a dark place.” But when the revelation from heaven comes, it is like the “Daystar” rising, or like the full light of the sun bursting in at dawn after a dark night. Suddenly, light is everywhere—more than enough for every area of your life.

How to Receive Revelation

Revelation is available to you. You too can receive all that God has for you. It begins with God’s written word. First, pray for God’s Spirit of wisdom and revelation and for knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding (Eph. 1:15–19, Col. 1:9–11). Then, take a relevant portion of the Bible, focus on it, read and re-read it until you see every word clearly. Peter says that this is like gazing at a lamp on a dark night waiting for sunrise; the written word is the available light until the dawning of the revelation comes. Imagine that what you are reading is happening before your eyes—see it in your mind’s eye. Keep going through it and over it, revolving it in your thinking, and giving it your full attention.

Just when your intellect is convinced that nothing revealing will appear, suddenly it can come like the dawn. Unexpectedly, you will “see” something or “know” something you have never seen or known before. You will receive a rock hard revelation from God—something concrete upon which you can build. When it comes like that, faith comes, life comes, light explodes, and you will want to talk about it. Moreover, you can use it to renew your mind and fight your spiritual enemies successfully; it is the invincible, authoritative, all-conquering Living Word of God.

Remember; in this, the measure you put in is the measure you will receive. God doesn’t play favorites here. This is available to anyone who will work it. Although it may not seem fair to us, the following is what Jesus said, and it is right:

(Mark 4:24–25 MKJV) And He said to them, “Take heed what you hear. With that measure which you measure, it shall be measured to you. And to you who hear, more shall be given. (25) For he who has, more shall be given to him; and he who has not, from him shall be taken even that which he has.”

The measure of heeding you put in will be the measure of receiving you get out. There is no shortcutting this, and there is no respect of persons. This will work the same way for everyone, and it does not work by sympathy, need, or deservedness; it works by the way you value and heed God’s word.

Summary of Jesus’s Instructions for Overcoming the Daily Evil

Let’s summarize what we have discovered from Jesus in what we have been looking at so far from Matthew 6:

Put your treasure in heaven, then you will …

Anchor your heart in heaven, this will greatly help you to …

Keep your eye single-focused on God, his word, and what he shows you; then …

You will begin to “take his thoughts.”

Once you have filled your heart with God’s thoughts, they will overflow in authoritative words, etc.

God will watch over these living words to enact them, empower them, and see that they accomplish what he sent them to do.

The Lord’s Prayer, “Thy kingdom come” will begin to be answered.

In doing this, you will be seeking first God’s kingdom and his righteousness.

By undertaking this process, you position yourself to receive all the benefits of God’s word. Faith will come—God says it will—and eventually you will get all the doubt out of your heart:

(Romans 10:17 EMTV) So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Out of the overflow of your heart, your mouth will speak. If it is full to overflowing with God’s words [exclusively], then you will speak as the oracle of God:

(Luke 6:45 ISV) “A good person produces good from the good treasure of his heart, and an evil person produces evil from an evil treasure, because the mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart.”

(1 Peter 4:11 ISV) Whoever speaks must speak God’s words …

Jesus said that you would have what you say—if you “believe” that what you say will come to pass and if you get the doubt out of your heart. You will have no trouble believing it will come to pass, if you are fully assured that God is saying it:

(Mark 11:22–23 NKJV) So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. (23) “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.

We get the doubt out of our hearts by putting God’s supernatural faith-filled words in. Then like light replacing darkness at sunrise, faith will fill our hearts to overflowing. So “let there be in you the faith of God,” by positioning yourself to hear God’s word constantly—and only God’s word. Doubt can quickly return like darkness if we stop the light coming in.

Today, getting God’s living word to fight for you is the “easy” way, compared with trying to fight the enemy, his doubts, and the weaknesses of your flesh in your own strength. All that Jesus went through for you, and indeed, all of his accomplishments mean you have free and confident access to heaven and to come boldly to the throne of Grace. It also means that you have the authority from God to receive the conversion of his written word to Living Word in your heart.

This is simply the key you need—along with following the Lord’s other instructions, as we have seen in this series of studies—to receive all the revelation you need for every area of your life. When you allow the Living Word—the King of kings, the Lion of the tribe of Judah—to fill and overflow your heart; you will effortlessly have God’s indomitable living words firing out of your mouth as the sword of the Spirit. Plus, you will have the life, light, creativity, encouragement, instruction, comfort, and wisdom that living words from God bring.

Let’s finish with a reminder of what else Jesus said in Mark 11:

(Make 11:24–26 NKJV) “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. (25) And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. (26) But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”
