"You Can Negotiate and Read Body Language Better By Doing This ..."
Greg Williams, CSP
The Master Negotiator & Body Language Expert at The Master Negotiator
This week, I'm excited to share a conversation packed with insights for anyone who #negotiates ("You're always #negotiating!"), whether at work, in business, or even in everyday life.
I had the privilege of being interviewed by Tony Anagor an emotionally intelligent #negotiation trainer & podcaster. Tony posed unrehearsed questions about negotiation and body language that I'm sure you will find insightful to achieve more of your endeavors' goals. Click here to continue ? ??
Here's what you'll discover from this episode: ?? My Backstory: How growing up around everyday negotiations sparked his passion and set him on the path to becoming a globally respected negotiation coach.
?? Body Language 101: Why body language isn't just a nice-to-have skill but an essential tool. I break down the subtle signs that can reveal everything from doubt to deception.
?? Game-Changing Techniques: We dive into assumptive questions—how to use them to shift conversations, gain information faster, and guide discussions to your advantage.
?? Handling Tough Opponents: I talk about dealing with the "bully" negotiator, staying assertive, and using empathy not as a weakness but as a strength that disarms and redirects.
??? Staying Ready for the Unexpected: Practical advice on preparation, contingency planning, and maintaining focus even when things don't go as planned.
?? The Role of Emotional Intelligence: I discuss how understanding both your emotions and your counterpart's can change the way you approach any negotiation.
What I loved most about this conversation was the real-life examples Tony and I shared. He and I discussed stories that showed how negotiation entails winning while allowing all parties to feel they won and were respected, too. We discussed how to do that by reading the room, balancing strategy with empathy, and knowing when to walk away.
Takeaways to Remember:
Negotiation is as much about managing relationships as it is about the deal.
Body language often says what words don't.
Empathy isn't a liability; it's a strategy.
