You Can Be a Lighthouse

Lighthouses are leaders and built to serve.
They stand for hope and come in all shapes and sizes – stationed along coastlines and entrances to harbors. They’re inspiring to look at and fun to climb to the top with that vital huge bright light focused in one direction or steadily sweeping around.
Lighthouses are beautiful and majestic, with a practical purpose – they help us see – to light, guide, and assist ships and sailors in avoiding disasters by leading them safely from sea to land at night as a way forward, especially in dire situations of storms.
Lighthouses are not moody – “I don’t feel like shining today!”
They show up and do their job in all kinds of weather with the help of the lighthouse keeper (the human touch) and his solitary, faithful commitment to this tower of strength and simplicity.
Anaik Alcasas introduced me to this quote about lighthouses by writer and political activist Anne Lamott , and it got me thinking about the life of a lighthouse – what it stands for, and that’s how this Daily came to be.
“Lighthouses don’t go running all over an island looking for boats to save; they just stand there shining.”
– How are you like a lighthouse?
– What’s inside of you that wants to help people find their way?
– How are you a beacon, solid and focused, a guiding light, a signal in the darkness for others to their destination, overcoming adversity, shining with hope??
