You Can Have More Than on Dream

You Can Have More Than on Dream

Today, I want to share something that’s been on my mind lately—a realization I wish someone had shared with me earlier in my career.

You can have more than one dream. Seriously, think about it! How many different dreams have you had while sleeping? I'm confident it's likely more than one. Our careers can serve as a canvas for various dreams and ambitions.

I became Vice President of News because a dream turned into reality. When I left the news industry, I knew two things for sure: I wasn't going back, and I wanted to be my own boss. So, I began dreaming about what I would do next. As a result, I’m now a professional coach and business owner with even more new dreams to fulfill.

The Fear Factor

Some of our dreams can feel overwhelmingly big—they might even scare us a little. And here’s the kicker: that fear can become paralyzing. I discussed this last week with a couple of potential clients. Instead of taking action, we get stuck in a cycle of self-doubt and hesitation. It’s easy to let those feelings hold us back from pursuing what we really want.

Don’t Stop Dreaming

When fear takes the driver's seat, you often stop dreaming altogether or—worse—settle for something less than what you truly desire. But life is too short for that! Embracing multiple dreams allows you to explore different paths and possibilities without feeling confined to just one.

Here are a few thoughts on how to embrace this idea:

  • Acknowledge Your Dreams: Write down all your dreams, big or small. Acknowledging them is the first step toward making them a reality. Consider making a vision board. I did this for the first time last year, and there's something to be said for keeping your dreams right in front of you. It’s incredibly motivating!

  • Break Them Down: If a dream feels too big, break it into smaller, manageable steps. This way, you can take action without feeling overwhelmed. Throughout my professional journey, I've consistently developed step-by-step action plans that led to my success. I also ask for help when needed.
  • Stay Open-Minded: Allow yourself the freedom to pivot or change directions if your interests and values evolve over time. This mindset led to my resignation almost two years ago. Even now, I've returned to the drawing board more than once as I focus on growing my coaching business.

You’re Not Alone

Imagine feeling empowered to conquer fear and self-doubt, paving the way to pursue your career dreams with confidence. Maybe you want to change industries, pursue a promotion, write a book, launch a podcast, or start a business.

I'm here to support you on this journey and am currently welcoming new clients. Together, we'll craft a personalized action plan that aligns with your true aspirations, enabling you to stop settling for less. Take the first step: simply reply to this email or reach out through my website, www.resiliencewinscoaching.com.

And always remember—it’s perfectly okay to have more than one dream!

Great post, Renee. Thanks for sharing it. Letting go of who you think you are (and should be) is very difficult to do but necessary to realize your dreams. Having time to really think about what those dreams might be is a gamechanger, especially when you are used to events beyond your control dictating your time and attention.
