This past Sunday night I was a guest on the Full Potential podcast. We talked about my transition from corporate leader to entrepreneur and my lessons learned. One of the things we didn’t dive into was the fact that even though I chose to leave my corporate position, it wasn’t necessary that I do so. And that’s something worth discussing.
I believe that multiple streams of income are the pathway to financial wellbeing. Look at the people making the most money, they aren’t achieving it via one source. I also passionately believe that one or more income streams should be residual, i.e. not directly exchanging time for money.
After my first month on my nutrition system, I experienced significant benefits. I released weight I had been struggling to lose for over 18 months. I woke up with more energy and more mental clarity than I had in years. I had plenty of energy throughout the day and didn’t need to consume Diet Coke and Dunkin Donuts endlessly. I just felt terrific and that translated into a major uplift in my happiness.
I initially told one of my best friends and my mother about the system. I earned a few $100 dollars and that was it for a while. It took a few more months of meeting other people doing the business and seeing how it really could fit into the pockets of my day for me to be interested. Even then it was probably another year before I started building my business consistently around my packed schedule.
I had a global team with big responsibility. I took conference calls morning, noon, and night. I had to work some weekends. Even so, I prioritized learning and connecting and growing my business. It was over two years before I left to work my business full time. I was grateful for it as my position was being eliminated. But if the environment was different, I might have chosen to stay for a few more years. I loved my team and excelled in the challenging environment. And I was doing a great job balancing both.
Network marketing is often described as a personal development plan with a paycheck. I totally agree! I was able to express my creativity through writing posts and articles. I met people totally outside my normal circles of influence. I inhaled books and podcasts. I was having meaningful discussions with people about nutrition, goal setting, and improving finances. Yes, I could have been doing this without my business. But, I was building TOWARDS something. Building something for me. It had my name on it, my personal stamp. It was MINE.
For all my avatars out there, the women excelling and loving their corporate careers, my message is simple. You can keep your existing career AND you can build something new for yourself. Building a residual income business takes time. So let it. And let me help you. You will find yourself refreshed and renewed in ways you never considered. You will add a new level of vitality and wellbeing to your day. And you will be building an income stream that will help fill in any gaps in your personal balance sheet, whether it’s too much credit card debt, or a drained retirement savings account, or lack of savings. Let me show you the play by play of how this model works as you keep a career you love!
