You Can Be a Force for Good By Joining Me

Dear Friends,

This was a historic week as we witnessed the United States reenter the Paris Agreement. This commitment lays the foundation for humans and all species to have a quality of life in the future. Clean air and water, nutritious food, stable temperatures, and the absence of recurring and severe natural disasters, like hurricanes, earthquakes and wildfires, no longer can be relied upon without collective global action by us as individuals, our businesses & governments. I expect the US will be a global leader through policy, incentives, and mandates, as it stewards us towards a better future.

Many of you know I am committed to seeking climate justice and combating the climate crisis through my business activities, which include Legacy Vacation Resorts, Salt Palm Development, B Tourism, Florida for Good, and Climate First Bank (I/O). Too many of us have already felt the consequences from our climate changing and it is continuing to get worse. Because of this, I want to share 2 significant commitments that I have made, in the hopes that you too will consider the same. I recognize that we all have different amounts of influence in this world but I would encourage you to not undervalue the influence that you carry as consumer, employee, citizen, or business leader.

The first of these commitments is that for any business where I have a controlling interest (and where I don’t, I will exercise influence in this direction), I will ensure that it commits to and achieves Net Zero by 2030. This means they will accelerate their reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to not permit a 1.5C-degree temperature increase by the year 2030—20 years ahead of the 2050 targets set in the Paris Agreement.  Your businesses can do the same and join the 800+ Certified B Corps and other global leaders that made this same commitment.

The second of these commitments is that I will move close to all, if not all, of our banking relationships to financial institutions that commit to not fund industries that are destroying our environment E.g. Fossil Fuels. However, ceasing to fund these polluters is simply not enough. These financial institutions will need to fund renewable and regenerative industries so these industries can grow and replace those that are extractive and exploitive. One way I am able to influence this is through investing in Climate First Bank (I/O). By supporting this type of bank, as an investor and founding board member, I will help it succeed and collaborate with other financial institutions to collectively combat the climate crisis. You can do this too by aligning your bank deposits with banks that support these values.

These are not commitments that I take lightly. However, they are necessary for our future and they come with a great opportunity for you to be the leader that we need and to enjoy the prosperity that comes with that decision. Please join me in these commitments and contact me if you have any questions.

Best,

Amazing enough, looking at some of the news surrounding this great event, people, leaders, are expressing some regret surrounding our rejoining the agreement. Stating thins like "what do we care about what the people of Paris think of our climate initiatives"? Not realizing, the accord is a measurement of success in reducing our global footprint. Let's keep up the good fight.

Jared, thanks for setting a shining example and putting forward a call to action. Look forward to advancing this cause together in all sorts of ways!
