You can do it

You can do it

Almost three years ago I started writing these #200WordTuesday posts.

Why?

I fancied a new writing challenge. After ten years of writing longer-form pieces for my blog, I wanted to try something different.

I came across an article that encouraged people to write much shorter articles. The author made two claims: it’s less time-consuming, and it’ll help your content go viral.

I suspect volunteer engagement being a niche of a niche of a niche has limited the virality of my posts, but they do take less time to write.

When you have no upper word count limit, you can think on the page, developing ideas as you go. Rambling is almost encouraged. It’s the edits that give an article focus.

When the limit is just two-hundred words you need to immediately be more focused and precise. Edits are limited. It’s actually quite fun.

I encourage you to do it too.

Why not give it a try?

Give yourself a 200-word limit, pick a topic and write something. It usually takes me less than twenty minutes.

Then publish it as a LinkedIn article (or similar) so we can all read it.

What have you got to lose?
