Robert Kubica's rally car after crash into barrier

You can do it.

It was a sunny Thursday back in mid-1997, we were at Sarno International Karting circuit to test some configuration for the oncoming Italian CIK FIA Championship race. I thought we would be alone that day on the track as no event was scheduled that weekend.

Instead, together with us, there was another kid, with his father and mechanic .... and their van plate was from Poland (?!), they had driven 2000Km+ for no reason ? .

As the day went I was amazed to see the boy never stop ... he must have done 200 laps, changing kart and tyres every other hour. There was determination. And the boy was just, I think, 10 or 12 years old. During the day a dynamic started - each time I was in the circuit testing my own things, he would line up behind me and mirror my trajectory. So half-way through the day I approached him and his mechanic with my, then, very broken english. Eventually I understood they were going to run for the OPEN Championship next year, so they were there to learn the track and understand the challenge. And Robert wanted to fast track learning by a local driver already expert at the track.

This was and still is Robert Kubica. I've followed him since - visceral passion for racing and lack of sense of your limit - what you need to grow and win in car racing.

I was struck to heart when his multiple accidents put him at rest, but glad he was still alive ... and much like with Alex Zanardi, I knew something magical and inspirational would happen next.

So in reading about his progress in the last few months, I know he'll eventually make it - but just getting so far it's worth to be advertised to get everyone to understand that limitations are in our mind most of the time - and that with planning, determination, focus and a bit of craziness, you can do it.

Robert, You will do it.
