To beat unemployment in 2024, you've got to be head-and-shoulders above a high number of qualified competitors (most of whom are currently employed).
You've got to overcome the employer risk you present as an unemployed candidate (average/below average performance, regardless of your past annual reviews), and the bragging rights employers have when they poach great employees from other companies.
Creating a strong personal brand in your resumes and interviews can be a big advantage when trying to position yourself as the top candidate.
But unfortunately, few job seekers know how to create a strong personal brand.
What you've been taught by career resources about resumes and interviews has the goal of making you appear qualified ... the bare minimum required to have employers continue to skim (some of) your resume, before moving on to the next. And most job seekers don't even appear qualified in your resume/interview first impressions, instead creating a personal brand that's confusing to employers.
Instead, you can create the first impression that will interest hiring manager and help you overcome unemployment ... by creating the personal brand "I have what you need". And since so few candidates know how to create this brand, it gives you a giant advantage.
But you and almost all other job seekers create a confusing, weak first impression of "I have all of this stuff ... do you need any of it?".
You do this through the brain dumps at the beginning of your resume and through the way you summarize your resume while responding to early interview questions ("So tell me about yourself?"). You hope that if you mention enough stuff, something will stick. In reality, this type of first impression rarely works well in a competitive job market, and it especially fails when you're unemployed.
If you knew how to create a first impression that could blow employers away, you'd would already have been landing a high percent of the jobs you applied to, you'd almost always advance in the hiring process, and you'd turn finalist interviews into offers.
If you're not having this kind of job search success, I can show you how to create a personal brand that beats unemployment so fast, you can find your next job by year-end.
