You Can Afford College!

Have you been thinking about going back to college to meet your career and income goals? Do you have a high school student who is getting ready for college? Is paying for it holding you back? We have good news! You can afford college! Both the Federal Government and Washington State have grants and scholarships that make higher education more affordable. The key to unlocking these resources is to complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA for short.

Right here in Northeast Spokane, we have a great resource in Spokane Community College. Many adults going back to school begin their journeys at SCC. They offer several programs that allow people to change career paths that don’t require a 4-year degree. And many of our neighborhood residents qualify for grants that pay for tuition!

On Tuesday, January 24th and February 22nd from 5:30-7:30 pm, the Northeast Community Center is hosting FAFSA Completion Nights, facilitated by College Success Foundation. The FAFSA can be confusing to fill out, which is why we are here to help! Our goal is that you will start and finish the application before you leave the workshop. There are a few things that you need to bring:

  • Email addresses of students and parents
  • Social Security Numbers and birthdates
  • A-Numbers for Green Card Holders
  • 2021 Federal Tax Returns/Information
  • Records of untaxed income
  • Cash, savings, and checking account balances
  • Investment information (other than your primary residence)
  • Laptop (if you have one, or your child has a school-issued laptop)

To make the night easier for you, childcare and dinner will be provided. We also have a small number of laptops that we can loan out. Please indicate if you need one on the registration form, as well as childcare.

We hope that you will join us on either of these nights. We want to see you succeed in your dreams this year!

This is fantastic. Is it all for people pursuing undergraduate degrees or is there any information for folks getting Masters degrees?
