Are you busy? Let’s change that.

Are you busy? Let’s change that.

I’ve been noticing lately how everyone seems to be busy. You meet someone on the street and ask them how they’re doing and the answer 95% of the time is: I’m great, things are pretty busy, but I’m good.

I used to think it was a good thing to be busy! No time to be bored and always in the action. Yet, I realized not too long ago how that behavior was actually preventing me from hitting my goals, big time!

I feel like our generation is making a huge mistake thinking that being busy is THE goal.

My business coach was the one making me switch my mindset. After speaking with him the first time, he told me I needed to make an audit of everything I was doing in a day. I should be tracking how I’m spending my time to understand where I’m losing time and focus.

I didn’t know there was such a thing as minimalism in business, but I was completely caught off guard with this concept. We mapped out all of the initiatives I was doing and started linking them to the outcomes I was expecting out of my business. As soon as the exercise was done, I realized that 70% of the work I was doing was leading me nowhere near my goals! The tasks I was doing were actually confusing my clients and keeping me from them even more.

So we revamped my whole strategy and simplified the whole thing to focus on one core offering and promotional activities linked to that same offering. Simple, easy, effortless.

At first, it almost felt too easy. I was constantly catching myself trying to think of other things I could be doing to create more offers, and my coach would bring me back and tell me to focus on executing on the strategy and to trust the process.

I had to shut off my inner energizer bunny and trust that he knew what he was talking about.

So I executed. I produced only the content that we agreed on, focused on promoting one core offer and trusted the process. One week later, I had 3 new clients and just over 10K$ in revenue in a week.

Results started happening in the most natural, flowy way possible.

As you’re also starting off your business right now, I want you to know that you do not need to do it all.

Relief right there.

I swear, the less you do, the better! The more you focus on the highly strategic activities to generate results, the best results you’ll get. Makes sense?

What you need to focus on:

  1. Who are you helping?
  2. What problem are you solving for them?
  3. How are you interacting with them?
  4. What is your offer to them?

That’s it, that’s all.

Now I’m asking you, how are you spending your time? Where are you wasting your valuable time?

What if you would take that extra time to learn, take care of yourself and grow as a human so that you can serve your people even better?

Instead of spreading yourself thin, think of being very good in one specific thing before jumping to a new project.

As you are a side hustler, it is even more relevant. You are dealing with little time and big dreams, so you don’t have time to do it all. What is the offer that you can create that will help people and generate the most revenue?

I know how easy it is to compare yourself to people out there growing empires with multiple offers and a huge following. Those people are doing this full-time, they have a team behind them helping them and they are making millions. Don’t you think it’s unfair to compare yourself to that when you’re just starting off?

We make that mistake all the time when all we need to focus on is to generate enough revenue to replace our salary. What if you could create an offer that would generate 10K$ per month, would you be satisfied with this to start with? Yes, that’s what I thought.

Once you hit consistent revenue, then we’ll focus on growth and scaling. But let’s start at the beginning and not let scary dreams prevent us from taking action today.

Are you busy getting by or busy getting ahead? Great article Mimi. I see that most people fail to get started because they think they must reinvent the wheel. They are too old already or too young. There is no right time to start, just start. Like your coach said, start with a schedule. If Ray Kroc stopped when he was 50, McDonald's would still be in competition with In-n-Out. If Mark Zuckerberg listened to people tell him he was too young to create one of the most popular social media platforms at 19, would it have stomped out Myspace? There's really only one way to know what you're good at and failure shouldn't define who you are, but define what you're learning on the way to success. Success doesn't come without failure attached in some way shape or form.
