ARE YOU BUSY? FRANTIC? MY TOP TIP ON HOW TO LEAD FOR MORE IMPACT.

I've been incredibly challenged this week by the idea of having to write an article. Not because I can't think of anything to write about, but because I can think of so many things and I am struggling to choose the right one.

Part of it is because I have done some intense learning this week so my brain is full of ideas. A part of it is I am a little sleep deprived, as perhaps many are. And, like you, I am facing into the incredible opportunities of this year and find so many options and possibilities that there is almost too much to choose from.

My struggle has been finding focus. There are options and opportunities and it can be challenging to figure out which is the right path to follow, or what is the thing that I should be doing. So, I've gone back to basics, gone back to some of my own foundations around leading possibility.

At the very top of this idea of Leading Possibility is the concept of first lead yourself. This starts with me needing to face up to what is going on for me at the moment, which is that I am in this vortex of ideas, combined with a little sleep deprivation that is impacting my decision making and my ability to attend and focus my attention.

I need to show up at my best. To be present, to be working in my strengths and to be self-directed.

And I need to step up. To continue to lead, to continue to grow my leadership. I have certainly done some of that this week.

Let’s keep it simple because what I'm noticing is there are many people around me who are in a similar situation. There is an undercurrent of fatigue. There is also a vortex of information, so many things to do, and a breadth of portfolio, which when they come together can feel like the perfect storm of opportunity and also the perfect storm of indecisiveness or inability to focus attention.

So, I'm going to go back to one of the things that I do best, which is to make the complex simple. The question that I am asking myself right now is ‘what is the most important thing I need to focus on right now?’

Leaders have impact and add value because they focus their energy, their attention, and their efforts on the things where they can make the biggest difference. This is my message to you. Pick something where you can make a difference.
