Are You A Business On Social Media? Here's What You Should Share

For the most part, your website stays the same. No changes or overhauls on a regular basis unless you've released a new product, are sunsetting a project that needs to be archived, or updating information that is now inaccurate that needs updating. It's static.
On the other hand, #SocialMedia changes daily-- every minute, every second. Users scroll through social media not only to be entertained and amused but to sometimes buy and learn. Use the constantly changing, and momentary nature, of social media for show-and-tell. Besides sending an email to subscribers, delivering mailers, or making phone calls, post on social media.
Some updates are perfect for the ever-changing nature of social media where people expect to see what's changed. It can be very simple-- and I've got ideas for you that will make those updates effortless:
?? Preorder Status
Say you have an Indiegogo campaign for a new, outdoor complete, easy-to-setup "glamping" system prototype. While backers can see updates on the website, attract new backers with posts on social media. Create a post on:
Reassure your current audience that you're on top of everything while tapping into a new audience each step of the way with regular updates that new backers are bound to see.
?? Hitting a major milestone
Have you shipped out your 100th product? Hit 15,000 followers? Received an accolade? Give yourself props by sharing on social media! This will position your business as one producing cool things that people are interested in, and provide evidence that you're making things happen.
Tap into the natural human desire we have to celebrate and root for others! Give your audience the opportunity to celebrate business milestones with you, and to feel like a part of your successes along the way.
??? New business procedures
Have a new intake process for subscription changes to your software? Announce it on social media, at the same time updating your web documentation and website as necessary.
If you're a pastry shop that officially now takes online orders, make a reel that shows the kouign-amanns, tarts, cookies, croissants, and all the other delicious treats as part of a video walkthrough of the new online checkout system. The more places you update where different people hang out, the better. The content could be as simple as you throwing up screenshots, or you simply getting in front of the camera to talk.
?? New Team Members
When you have new employees or helpers that could make an appearance on the platform, introduce them on the channel. You don't even need to show their face (if they're camera shy)-- it could be their hands wrapping a gift package or from behind their head as they help check customers into a massage facility.
Sharing a fun fact about their favorite hobby or whether they are a cat or dog person adds to their relatability-- huge points on social media. It makes them more real to your audience, and they are more likely to interact and reach out.
? Outages
OK so recently I was on Meetup to check RSVPs to an Emerging Tech event in the Austin area that I was lending a helping hand with. The site went down when I refreshed it, or maybe I overdid the refresh button, but I received an error message that the site was temporarily down. But they were working on it! How did I know? Status updates were being sent through Twitter ??

I mean, many of us have social media open on other tabs or absentmindedly open social apps on our phone, so why not have not-so-fun but crucial updates people are looking out for there as well?
?? New Product/Service Previews
Working on a new product or service? Talk about the thought process behind its development on an Instagram Story so your audience can see your passion and knowledge behind it. Hold up each fabric sample to the camera for the new handbag line you're contemplating production. Show off product prototype close-ups so your audience starts wondering and curiously tunes in more closely afterwards so they don't miss out on further previews.
I'll say it again. People like to be involved and feel as if they're receiving special scoops such as exclusive previews being part of your circle of followers.
Updating on social media doesn't have to be a headache-- do what's easiest, or when you have a good block of time, schedule posts out as far as you have content. Keep your audience on top of what you're on top of so it's no surprise when you finally debut something awesome?
