You Are Not A Burden (Even If You Are Unemployed)

You are not a burden. You are a blessing. Imagine spending your life trying to not be a burden? A heavy burden at that. A burden heavier than an ACME anvil from a Warner Bros. circa 1980 cartoon. Some job candidates feel like a huge burden right now to their families. It’s like their only value to their partner (sometimes kids) was that of being a reliable provider. So where does this all go when you are unemployed? What happens when unemployment runs out? That reality becomes the single “motivator” for anyone to just take any role even a contract one. This happens a lot. There are so many successful people in candidate pools who are being motivated by their fear of becoming or feeling like the ultimate burden on their families.
It’s this fear that sets off your activities from applying to ideal roles where you’ll continue to lead a team and get to grow in your leadership skills vs. relegating yourself to applying to subpar roles where you’ll have to shrink in responsibilities and no longer lead a team. You’ll apply for a role two or three rungs belong your last using the excuse that you’ll work your way to the top. This compulsion to not be/feel like a burden will bury you in a role meant for someone with less experiences and successes than yourself. Is there a better way? Aren’t all motivators the same? I know they are absolutely NOT. What if you realized, believed, and rehearsed how you have been a blessing instead?
You are a damn wonderful blessing. I don’t need to speak with you to know this in my heart. Why? I attract job candidates who are proven mid-career marketers. You joined my community knowing that you qualified and on that basis alone I can tell your talents, curiosity, and work ethic has deeply blessed your employers and those who rely on you. Period. Full stop.
Ain’t no one going to convince me (nor should they, you) otherwise. Pardon, my apathy for proper grammar on that last statement but it felt right!
Imagine this: what if you could turn around how you feel about yourself today?
If you knew you’ve blessed others then think about the deserved audacity you’d bring to your next job application?
Would you still undersell yourself?
Would you leave out the fact that you bring 20-years of experience not just 9 in marketing?
Would you really leave out that you worked for an employer that no longer exists just because it ages you?
Would you drag yourself out of bed afraid to read your inbox?
No.
My clients know that they have blessed their employers, teams, clients, and others. They may not have all scheduled a breakthrough session believing this but after 9-weeks with them I have seen their opinions of themselves and capabilities totally transform. Want to be next? Schedule your breakthrough session today. You are not a burden. You are a blessing. You've simply lost sight of this and it's time to rediscover your worth. You deserve it.
To your marketing career success,
