If you build it, they will come
It's been easy for many to dismiss the viability of electric cars on the notion of "range anxiety".
But isn't range anxiety relative? Wouldn't we all be pained and suffer from range anxiety if the nearest gas station was always 30-50 miles away? Instead they're on nearly every street corner and because of this robust infrastructure we tend to forget that even gasoline cars have limits.
Consider the included image below which shows refueling locations in the Greater Houston metro. On the left, green pins show the current* availability of commercial car charging stations; on the right, maroon pins show the availability of commercial gas stations.
Now, pretend the image on the left actually represented gas station availability. If gas stations were truly that scarce, "range anxiety" would likely be common language used in the traditional automotive industry.
So while one option is to wait for larger capacity batteries and longer range EVs, consider option two: "If you build it (infrastructure), they (EVs) will come."

8 年Given the high volume of Tesla Model 3 pre orders, I thought I'd bring this post back to life.
I'm so looking forward to the day when I get an EV. (Volvo, of course)
