Are you brave enough to ask the question?
What's with this "transitioning back" or "back to normal" that I keep seeing and hearing in media, conversations, politicians? This is our normal now.
The 'real' flexible working, dispersed teams, the blurred boundaries between home and work life, Zoomitis, the lack of physical interaction with our friends and work colleagues. But also the insight into our colleagues and clients home life via VC, deeper personal connections as we traverse this time together, embracing the vulnerability of uncertainty together.
We get to set our 'normal' - even if it's a 'new normal'. But you need to look inside and ask yourself the questions.
I know I'm not the only one re-thinking and re-imagining my work life. Questioning my focus and priorities. Questioning the need to travel as much. Questioning how to work more productively. Questioning how to create a work day that works for me, not for 9-5, Mon-Fri. Questioning how much I need to earn. Questioning what is the work I can do that will have the greatest impact in building leaders and teams that thrive. Questioning what a fulfilled life is for me.
It is uncomfortable to sit in the
'questioning' phase. But we need to -
that's where the answers are.
We like to know the path forward, the roadmap. Sitting in the 'questioning' phase requires us to embrace our vulnerability, to look inner, to really tap into how we're feeling. To peel the onion to go deeper - to really get to understand what is it that we need. It's easier to stay on autopilot, to 'numb' our feelings (choose your numbing agent of choice: alcohol, food, work, exercise, being busy, Netflix, scrolling etc). But we're doing ourselves a great injustice.
James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, has a great weekly newsletter that asked a question today: "What are you preventing yourself from feeling?". It's top of my list for this weekend's journalling as I feel uncomfortable sitting in the questioning phase.
What are you questioning?

4 年So much insight and gold available to us when we we sit with the discomfort and really hold those questions that disrupt our old patterns. Thanks Julia

4 年Pretty much everything over the last few weeks. And at the moment it’s around - how much of some of the questioning / changing feelings has been because of what’s happening and therefore is more of a reaction, and how much of it is the truth coming from the space to stop and reflect and really examine things...
