There are 2 types of branding - personal brands and business brands. Do you know which one you are?
Business brands are those like Nike, Samsung, Apple, etc. Their brand is their business and the products they offer, like Nike sells sports wear, Samsung and Apple sell phones and tablets.
Personal brands on the other hand are the actual people behind the company. It’s who is running it like you or me!
People who use personal brands connect to their audiences using their own personalities rather than the product that they offer. They do this by showing their values, their character, and their passion, it’s like making friends with your customers before they know they are your customers!
Both types of brands use the same basic strategy of trying to stand out, but what company doesn’t! Personal brands stand out by putting a human first. They are more prone to use advertising based on, “This is who I am, and this is why you should pay attention to me,” and not “This is my product and here is why you need it.” - So which one are you?
Because when building a personal brand, you identify who you are so much so that it almost doesn’t matter what your product is. As soon as your name is attached to something, people will want to buy it because it’s coming from you and that’s what we’re all really trying to achieve isn’t it?
Now, a lot of people think of branding as something you have to actively do but quite often it’s already being done for you from what you put on your Instagram or in your Facebook Stories to what you say in Facebook Groups and even how you say it. Your website, your blog posts, to your LinkedIn, anybody who comes across your presence on those social medias will make up their own version of you and if you’re not actively taking control over what story is being told, it may not be the right one!
It’s your own curation of the things you want people to know about you. You’re telling everyone the reason why you’re so awesome at what you do and why they should be getting their photography services from you.
The sheer concept of a business brand is becoming overshadowed by making sure main members are in a positive ‘personal branding’ light and if not then it can mean bad news for the company as a whole!
It all comes down to YOU as a business owner. You ARE your brand and not the other way around.
