Are you a Boss worth celebrating?

Are you a Boss worth celebrating?

As someone who talks to team leaders all day, I hear it all. Some love where they work and feel energized by their teams, while others are on the verge of leaving. But many are searching for solutions to improve their team culture and turn things around. This is one such story—unfortunately, it didn’t have a happy ending.

A leader of a small team was deeply concerned about the workplace culture. Once full of energy and passion, she had lost her spark. Instead of feeling excited to lead her team and create amazing experiences for customers, she began to dread going to work. Each morning, she felt physically sick at the thought of facing the day.

This negative shift in her own energy had spread to her team. Many of them had approached her privately, admitting they were actively looking for jobs elsewhere. She knew this exodus would overwhelm the remaining staff and seriously impact customer experience. So, she decided to be proactive and went to her boss, seeking support and solutions to improve the team culture.

But as Boss’s Day approached, her team wanted to lift her spirits. They planned a surprise, decorating her desk and work area in celebration of the day.

It was a bittersweet moment. That same day, her boss fired her.

What do you think the moral of this story is? Have you ever come close to firing someone only to realize you were wrong?

As we reflect on Boss’s Day, ask yourself: what does it really mean to be a boss worthy of celebration? Are you truly self-aware? Are you really listening to your team leaders?

Perhaps it’s time to take a hard look at your team culture—and invite your leaders into that process. After all, being a boss isn’t just about overseeing a team—it’s about understanding, supporting, and growing alongside them.

If you’re ready to build a happier, more engaged team culture, I’d love to help. Let's talk about how we can create a step-by-step plan tailored to your organization—so you can be the boss your team celebrates every day.
