Are You Blaming Job Search Ageism But Your Resume Is The Culprit?

Are You Blaming Job Search Ageism But Your Resume Is The Culprit?

As an age 40, 50, or 60+ job seeker, you have to expect that employers will expect more from you than they did earlier in your career.

After all, you expect higher compensation than you did in your 20's and 30's, so why wouldn't employers expect more from you?

The problem most age 40+ job seekers have is that you don't know how to effectively prove to employers you can do more through your resume and interviews.

Most think that their experience speaks for itself, and that's a very 1980's way of selling yourself ... describing your experience (or years of experience) forces employers to guess if your experience was amazing or meh. Experience shows that you're qualified, but this won't make you look amazing in 2024 when you compete against many other qualified candidates.

In 2024, selling yourself as qualified, makes you average (at best).

Here's where it could be your resume's fault ... Most resumes that are described as fine or good still fail to show that you can and will do more than other competitors. That's because most resumes are written to describe responsibilities and job descriptions (what you were supposed to do), but force employers to guess if you were a success or failure.

Most resume and career professionals were trained to pass certification tests, that train (and test) their ability to describe candidates as qualified (which equals average), so they create (and teach you to write) average resumes.

And an average resume that portrays you as average won't cut it, when employers perceive you expect higher compensation than a younger candidate. You don't realize you're asking an employer to pay a Mercedes price for what they see as a VW bug's performance.

If you're losing opportunities or offers to less experienced competitors, you're getting feedback that you're "overqualified "(which really means overpriced), it's probably not job search ageism ...

It's probably your resume.

But the good news is that you can change your resume to prove you're worth it ... and I can show you how, during my next free webinar.
