Are you being limited?

I finished watching The Alpinist with my kids last night. This is the second time I’ve seen it, and it’s just as good as the first. If you’ve seen Free Solo, this is twice as crazy and entertaining, and it’s available on Netflix. Marc-André Leclerc is arguably the best solo climber (no ropes) to have ever lived.

The most impactful part is the end, where his mom speaks and says, “Most of us live our lives thinking about things we would like to do or adventures we would like to have, but we hold back.

What is it that you would do if you were able to overcome the things you see as limitations or the things you’re afraid of?

What would you do?”

I think this is a question we should ask ourselves, our kids, and our families often, as it’s not typically discussed directly. The harder part, which Marc-André achieved in his life, is actually going out and living that adventure.

Your focus doesn’t have to involve something that puts your life at risk. However, based on how most people act, the biggest risk is that you may never start your most exciting adventures if you let limitations stop you from ever beginning.

This is an investor club newsletter, but I find that most investors are just super founders who’ve scaled to earn seven or eight figures or experienced a significant exit or capital gain.

If you’re a founder, you’re on an adventure; you’re taking risks and doing exciting things - at least in business. How about with best friends or your spouse or kids?
