5 Tips for Beginner-Level Gamers

Are you a non-gamer looking for a way to get into games? Here are 5 tips for newcomers:

?1. Where to play??

Whether it’s the big screen or a small one, video games are now more accessible than ever.

Do you want to play on your comfortable living room couch? You can choose from a variety of home consoles with a collection of thousands of games, play solo or bring extra controllers for your friends and family.?

Do you prefer your home computer? If you are lucky enough to own a graphical beast, take advantage of that and check out some of the latest photorealistic games available. However, even if your computer is an office relic that is half a decade old, it will still be able to run older games, including some classical treasures that aged very well.

Regularly commuting? The biggest game catalog is actually available on mobile phone app stores. With such a wide selection, you shouldn’t worry about how to start playing, but what you should play first.?

2. Where to buy? (And should you?)

In the global village era, almost any game is available for immediate download from a digital store or by delivery to your doorstep from across the world. Moreover, this brings a lot of opportunities: seasonal sales and substantial discounts, very affordable game bundles, subscription services that give you a monthly pass to a collection of games, and free-to-play games that you can download and try for free (just like our very own Mech Arena and Raid: Shadow Legends ).?

Wherever you choose to play, remember that games these days are very affordable.

3. What to play? So many games are out there?

Ah, that’s the million dollar question. But just like when recommending a dish from a restaurant menu, the answer can get very personal. You’ll get the best recommendations from friends who know your taste, and the more you play and find what you like (and what you don’t) - the easier it will be for others to guide you and recommend something to your liking.

Some people play for the challenge - whether to tease their brain or test their quick reflexes. Others will want to take part in an immersive and interactive story, and some are just looking to relax or pass the time with light entertainment.

What is going to work for you? Just like with everything in life – you’ll never know until you try. Look for a recommended game with an impressive storyline, and you might realize how games can be the ultimate narrative device. Perhaps a good strategy game will get you hours of fun and challenge, even if you’re not into traditional games like chess. Try to?give multiplayer games a shot as well, even if you were never into team sports - you might be surprised with how fun the experience is behind the screen.

4. Git gud? Find the difficulty level that fits you

In the gaming community, “git gud” means you should keep practicing until you master a game before you can reap the fruits of your labor. Not your thing? Nobody should tell you the “right” way for you to play.

Some of you will find interest in challenging games that require dedication and mastery, trying and failing (and trying and failing again); while others would rather just relax with something that can give them immediate gratification.

Whatever you’re after, gaming is a hobby that you should take at your own pace. Many games offer various difficulty levels and accessibility options so it’s easier to tweak them to your preference, but you need to remember that not every game is a one-size-fits-all. That being said, the option to move on to something else is just a few clicks away.

5. Play with friends

Some of the all-time favorites are ones that offer a sublime single-player experience, with a story that pulls you in and spans over hours and hours, something that feels like more of a personal experience. But on the other hand, there are worthwhile games that offer a more social experience, ones that you could play with or against your friends.

Bringing friends together by playing on the same screen, or connecting to your friends from afar through online play (and perhaps even make new ones) - multiplayer games are a social experience that you don’t want to miss. Sure, the goal of the game might be to beat everyone else and win that treasure, but maybe the real treasure is the friends you'll make along the way.
