Welcome to the newest edition of Feel Brand You.
I`m so glad that our paths crossed and you are reading these lines.
Feel Brand You is an almost weekly dose of inspiration about branding and business building from my point of view, a branding photographer.
Part of my job as a branding photographer is photographing events and I wanted to share a few tips on how to feel more comfortable being photographed and behave naturally during an event where you are a guest and a photographer is there to document the day(s).
This could be an awkward experience. Last year I was at an award ceremony and I asked the photographer to take some photos of me and honestly, I didn`t know what to do. I felt so weird because I didn`t know the photographer, I didn`t know anyone else and everyone was watching.
As you can see, photographers feel the same as our clients. Keep in mind the following few things:
Ignore the Camera: Focus on being yourself and enjoying the event rather than worrying about the camera. The photographer is there to capture the essence of the event and moments as they unfold naturally, so you don't need to pose or feel self-conscious. The photographer is not there to capture perfect poses.
Engage in Activities: I encourage you to participate in the event's activities and interact with others. Candid moments often arise when you are engaged in conversations or enjoying yourself and that's the best way to capture the essence of the event. The emphasis will be on capturing the activities, the emotions and your face will not necessarily be the centre of attention.
Stay Relaxed: It's OK to feel a bit nervous initially, but if you get involved in the event, you'll forget about the camera and start acting more naturally. Authentic moments happen when you interact with others, laugh, and enjoy yourself.
Free Headshots: If headshots are offered for free during the event, take the opportunity. Why? There is nothing to lose. You might get a new professional LinkedIn Profile picture that you love.
You don`t want to be photographed?
Tell the photographer or your host. They will respect your choice and you can avoid unnecessary uncomfortable moments if you tell them in advance.
And a few advantages of hiring a photographer if you host an event:
