You are the asset!

You are the asset!

No matter where you are on your professional journey—whether you’re on the job hunt, aiming for a promotion, or building your own business—the most valuable asset you’ll ever bring to the table is you. Truly understanding this is a game-changer. I’ve seen firsthand how success blooms when you own your worth.

Now, let me be real with you: like anyone else, I’ve stumbled and faced setbacks. But I’ve never allowed any failure to define my value. Instead, I keep this truth at the forefront: I am an asset wherever I go, and my contributions are worthy.

Here’s a tip that’s helped me along the way: I always ask for recommendations from clients, colleagues, and employers. These testimonials add tangible proof of my value and create a powerful brand.

A little story? I once asked a manager—a White woman—to write me a recommendation. I had a good feeling she would say no, and sure enough, she did. Why? Because I had outshined her, built trusting relationships with leaders who she could not and I’d directly called out her microaggressions.

But here’s the funny part: I had already had recommendations from senior leaders over her. They were more than happy to do it. I didn’t guide them on what to write, but the words they shared were all I needed to demonstrate my impact. Check out my LI recommendations.

My point is that you are the asset and people you work with know it.

If you’re ready to let LinkedIn work in your favor, it’s time to harness the power of recommendations. These tools are a secret weapon for elevating your brand visibility and credibility.

Queens and Crowns, here’s how you can make them work for you:

  1. Ask Strategically for Recommendations ?? Reach out to colleagues, mentors, and clients with whom you’ve built solid relationships. When asking for a recommendation, make it easy for them by reminding them of specific projects or results you achieved together. Think of it as guiding them to highlight exactly what you want to showcase. These insights make a massive difference in how potential collaborators and clients perceive you!
  2. Keep Your Recommendations Current ?? Regularly update your LinkedIn profile to reflect new achievements and experiences. As you do, seek fresh recommendations from recent projects to keep your profile timely and relevant.
  3. Say Thanks & Show Appreciation ?? Grateful energy is powerful energy! When someone takes the time to recommend or endorse you, thank them publicly and offer a recommendation back if you feel it’s appropriate. It’s not only courteous but strengthens your network and boosts your visibility.
  4. Highlight Your Expertise with Testimonials ?? Each recommendation is like a mini-testimonial. Potential clients and collaborators gain insight into your value and the impact you bring. Your LinkedIn page becomes a place where your brand is not just visible—it’s viable.
