Are you asking the Right Questions?

There are a few questions which sound very absurd to me. When a prospective marketing client asks me these questions I tend to make them understand what they should know instead of answering the questions:

1. Have you worked with some other clients from same industry?

Why don't I answer it, because Startups usually are very different from each other. A success story with one client does not ensure the success story with another client in same industry. Reason could be as simple as the difference in target market. Now, when they want to know the success story, usually they tend to say, " I want that campaign too", No sir, you don't. I feel really glad when they ask me instead " Have you understood our target market and what appeals to them?" , with this question, I know the chances of success are much higher.

2. I have a brilliant product, why should I spend on marketing?

Why don't I answer it, well, it is a mind set I can't change. As an Entrepreneur we all think our product is great, but unless people know about it, it can't sell. This is not a question to be answered but a lack of business acumen.

There are a few more questions like this which need more training on a mind set level than subject matter. That is one reason I started meeting Entrepreneurs virtually and in-person to answer their questions regarding their need for marketing before they become my client. It feels much better to be able to help them understand their market and marketing strategies, I would say this is my way of giving back to Startup Ecosystem.
