Are you already the Data Rockstar in your organization?

With my team I help you to accelerate product & process innovation ? Manager, Sales JMP
Being data savvy is today one of the most required skills to advance your career. And we do not talk about knowing how to do simple calcs in Excel anymore. We are talking about the real stuff. So the question is: are you already the Data Rockstar in your department? Hmm. Let`s think big: in your organization?
You as an employee own and drive your career
Your company provides the framework for your development and your managers job is to engage and coach you. But you as an employee own it and it`s up to you to drive your career. You have to understand your strengths and capabilities, outline career goals and identify development needs.
Having good domain knowledge and business acumen isn’t good enough any more
I’m sure you are an absolute expert in your domain. Whether you are a Scientist, Engineer or whatever: you know your business! Right? But this might not be good enough anymore. Your organization has to innovate faster than ever to stay ahead of their competitors. The company needs to quickly develop new products and processes to remain competitive. Complex technical problems need to be solved under time pressure to define new processes and improve them once they are in production.
Ability to learn from data better and faster is key differentiator of success.
The problems you are dealing with are complex and often can’t be solved with prior knowledge or experience. And sorry to say that, but there will always be more problems to solve than the available scientific/engineering resources can cope with and scientists/engineers are maxed out. So for you and your company having the ability to learn from data better and faster is the key differentiator of success today.
A fool with a tool is still a fool
Sorry (again) for being that unofficial, as we don’t know each other yet (btw.: we can change that - just connect with me here on LinkedIn). But it describes best the situation I see every day. Vendors just throw a piece of software over the fence and their customers think that`s the holy grail to drive data-driven decision making. Nope – it isn’t. Without giving you the opportunity to learn not only how to use the software, but also acquire the appropriate knowledge to interpret the results your analytical solution is showing you, it`s likely that you’ll fail and the software will become shelfware.
