As the year comes to its end, many are busy setting budgets for next year's plans and goals. Are you already in 'combat' mode?
I learned to refrain from such an approach because labeling any issue as a 'fight' inadvertently puts others on the defensive, hindering the opportunity for a more cooperative dialogue and resolution of any issues.
It's vital to enter any debate with an open mind. When anybody disagrees with us, we should acknowledge the possibility that we might be wrong, and listen attentively to the other's perspective. It is not just about humility, but a key element of effective communication. This mindset enables us to recognize our own biases, logical fallacies, or false assumptions, leading to more balanced, well-informed, and credible arguments.
I’ve personally found it beneficial to organize several informal pre-meetings in cozy environments or during brunch occasions. In these sessions, ideas and positions are discussed in a more open, non-judgmental mood. This approach allows everyone to express their true needs and fears because the environment feels safer. The subsequent formal meeting is shorter and more effective because everyone's expectations have been pre-adjusted to be more aligned with reality.
