Will you be affected by BT’s 9% price hike? Remember to check your terms and perhaps look at alternative providers

Are you a BT customer? If so, are you aware of the 9.3% price hike coming into effect on 31st March 2022?

Customers will see their bills rise by nearly 10% due to the growing figure of inflation in the UK. The change will come into effect the same month National Insurance increases are due to begin.

How do I know if I’m affected?

BT has advised the price hike will not affect all customers, however, they will be writing to those affected by the price increase over the next few weeks. So if you are going to be affected, you should get an update shortly. Before then, it’s a good idea to check through your contract so you can plan ahead.

Top tip: There can be a lot of confusing jargon involved with your contracts, so it is important to thoroughly check the terms when you sign up to a broadband provider.?

What can I do?

If you are a customer affected, look through your current contract terms with BT.?

If you are out of contract or close to the end date, now is the time to look at alternative options. There are many other options to explore out there but keep in mind that EE and Plusnet are part of the BT Group and it is expected (although not confirmed yet) they will be announcing their own price increases.?

If you are still in contract, check the terms and conditions you signed up to to see if the price hike was detailed when you signed. If so, unfortunately, you will be stuck in that contract. However, it might still be worth looking at the early termination fees if you can find a cheaper alternative solution.

If you have followed these steps and are still unsure whether you will be affected, contact BT to find out more.?
