If You Are An Achologist
If— Rudyard Kipling
?If you can keep your head when all about you??
??? Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,??
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
??? But make allowance for their doubting too;??
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
??? Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
??? And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can seek to understand the problem without agenda then you can avoid empathy, sympathy and overburden.?
If you are grounded in yourself and can have unconditional positive regard for the person in front of you then you will be a skilled helper.?
If you have the patience to listen actively and give that person the space to talk then you are true to your calling as a coach.?
Your wisdom will show if you keep on top of emotion and don't seek to be the hero.
?
If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;??
??? If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;??
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
??? And treat those two impostors just the same;??
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
??? Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
??? And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:
?
If you have audacious goals combined with action steps and don't overthink any barriers in your way but seek to reflect instead then you're on the right path.?
If you can detach from any outcome whether it's good news or bad news then you will flatten the roller coaster of unhelpful feelings.?
If you can deconstruct the behaviour of others without condemning the individual then you understand that people always make the best decisions they can with the information that they have available at the time.?
You know that there will be setbacks on the way but that every apparent failure contains a lesson that strengthens your character.

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
??? And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
??? And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
??? To serve your turn long after they are gone,??
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
??? Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’
If you can maintain a pioneering attitude and embrace risk-taking and new experiences as material riches come and go then you're learning what it means to be a real human being.?
If you continue to support your colleagues and community even when you're at your lowest ebb then you will see? and feel your energy return.?
You find your grit and resilience.
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,??
??? Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
??? If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
??? With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,??
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,??
??? And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!
If you can talk to everyone as an equal without being or having a hero then you are a leader.?
If you can meet everyone where they're at you will communicate with the greatest impact.?
If you realise that there is only now, and the only thing you can control is how you respond in the moment then you'll be at peace with yourself.
And then you will be able to say "I am an Achologist!"
