These days I'm speaking a lot with fellow IT professionals where ever they meet. In fact I keep on looking such opportunity where I can have some intense and mindful discussion with them.
No matter, it's coffee shop, super market, cafeteria , office premise, Public Buses, meetups, conferences or Chai ki TAPARI, wherever i get a chance for discussion I approach them, design an alliance with them and then we have a lot of meaningful and mindful discussion
My addiction of Chai normally forced me to go to ‘TAPARI’ (I'm non-alcoholic, non-smoking, non- tobacco chewing ,Purest Vegetarian Guy) why I made it clear because whenever you say you're going to 'TAPARI' , it's universally understood behavior to have Chai with Sutta (Tea and cigarette) but I only take Chai (Tea) :)
If you want to feel the Nirvana state of discussion covering any facet of life, experiment ‘Ek TAPARI wali cutting Chai' in evening. I’ll not advocate more benefit of it here. So directly jumping to my original point.
So, I met a QA Lead while having evening tea at TAPARI ,we talk a lot about Testing. Testing is very close to my heart.Few of discussions points are-
- How current IT market is in terms of testing
- Why testing is still considered as low profile job
- Why testing is still low paid compared to programming
- Why testing dept. is targeted first in any business crisis
- Why everyone is making noise about test automation ... etc. etc.
Out of my curiosity ,I inquired a bit more about how his team looks like and how they are doing? When putting this question I meant “whole team”, we agilist are very much used of these things.
Then this guy told me some mind blowing and amazing things how IT service industries are actually working, what’s inherently wrong with their functioning and why leaders are not giving a thought to it ?
As per him, Team means “Testing team”, his ‘Testing team’ in itself consists of three teams (their job responsibility is quite interesting)-
1- Design and Development Team- Design Test scenarios, create Test cases (TC) and upload it in HP-QC
2- Execution Team- Execute those TC’s
3- Automation Team- They try to automate some of those TC’s however it’s not guaranteed.
Sometime these 3 team’s talk or you can say most of the time they don’t because they are king of their own kingdom and much happy ruling their territory only.
Only a single SME has access to client, he/she talks to client takes the requirement and then it’s shared with programmer and testing team separately, there is hardly any discussion happen between testing team and programmers team.
Terrific team composition, Sensational, Much wow, mind-blowing isn’t it ?
Everyone is happy so why I’m making a big issue out of it? It’s here, what he told me next.
During ITT 90% of work is gone to another company because client is not happy with the way they are functioning and delivering value.8 weeks release are not meeting client’s expectation and none of current organization’s leadership give a #### to think about it. Leadership team was like "Jab kuchh hoga dekha jaayega, abhi aise hi chalane do.Billing ho rahi hai na".
They are now left with testing team only, all others guys are on bench now and eventually client has asked them to reduce testing team further by 50%.

6 年Great article Atulya !! This is sure short recipe to fail and I am sure they might be "Doing Agile as well" (I purposefully written doing agile then being Agile) and everybody might be happy as well and deliveries might be happening "on-time" while working over weekends and late working hours and "Who cares for quality" or automation or DevOPs or Continuous integration, why to do these to get better products and you will less work. Jugaad is killing "IT Industry" soon India will get only "Shit work" (we are not already doing that) and nobody wants to work with these companies where a little bit of innovation or quality is needed/required.
