York Ready for Anything

York Ready for Anything

York Ready for Anything Launch

After 10 months of hard work and planning we have today launched the business side of the York "Ready for Anything" project. As a York independant business owner and resident I am honoured and proud to be heading up the business engagement side of this voluntary project that aims to help all York residents and businesses in the event of any major emergency taking place in York. This was borne out of the being directly involved with the relief effort during the floods of December of 2015. Along with many other York residents and businesses we came together to help the people and local authority when it was needed. Personally I wanted a legacy to come out of this adversity and along with the YorkCVS sat down to look at all of the good things that happened and to examine ways of improving the things that didnt.

The outcome is that we have now set up a group that would be in direct contact with the major incident response team to help coordinate the volunteers to where and when they are most needed. For this to be a success however we need as many people to register to say they would be prepared to help at the time of any major emergency..not just flooding..

Donating is not always money or possessions its about time and expertize and its in everyones benefit for us all to pull together. By having this database it will allow us to be more efficient as possible at a time of chaos. Every disaster has a number of different stages to it and at each stage volunteers are needed with the relevant abilities and skills.

Personally although Ready for Anything is olny set up to come into action should there be a major emergency, and hopefully there wont be, there will be many more advantages to belonging to this for the whole community. Today was just the start and we are planning over the coming months to have roadshows in each ward of York where local volunterrs and businesses will be invited along to discuss how they can help each other all year round.

All of this will go to making York an even better place to live than it is already.
