1. What is Yokohama Fender?
Yokohama fender, also known as floating pneumatic rubber fenders, inflatable fender, pneumatic rubber fender, yokohama pneumatic floating fender.
The middle part is cylindrical and the ends are hemispherical. It is filled with compressed air and suspended on the side of the ship or dock. When a ship is berthing with a ship or with a dock, it absorbs the impact energy and reduces the damage of the hull or dock. It is a renewal of solid fender (tied with brown rope or rubber strip) in the past.
At present, yokohama fender has been widely used in oil tankers, container ships, yachts, offshore platforms, large docks, military ports, large piers and so on.
2. Basic Composition of Yokohama Fender
According to ISO 17357-1-2004, fenders consist of the following parts:
Outer rubber
A rubber layer covering the outside of a fender to protect the fender skeleton material and the inner rubber from damage or wear by external forces.
Inner rubber
Rubber layer on the inner wall of fender to prevent gas leakage and maintain fender pressure.
Cord fabric
Skeleton material consisting of hanging cord fabric.
Coiling ring
A steel ring placed at one end (or both ends) of a fender to fix the end of the cord layer.
Flange
Metal parts at both ends of fender can be fitted with inflatable valves and safety valves.
3. Characteristics of Yokohama Fender
- It absorbs large impact energy and has little impact on ships.
- Simple installation.
- It has good elasticity and will not deform under compression.
- Light weight and practical economy.
- Tilt compression, performance is not reduced.
