Yoga and Meditation in India

Yoga and Meditation in India

The origin of these two ancient techniques is in India, the birthplace of yoga and meditation. The control of the mind through the mastery of the body that yoga offers invites us to develop the mind through the stillness of meditation.

India is the perfect place to awaken the body's energy through movement and stimulate the growth of the mind, in traditional 'ashram' where discipline is extremely important; spiritual retreats where the philosophy of well-being and personal evolution are the result of good practice of both techniques. Reaching the desired degree of peace and tranquillity, controlling the breath, creating unique and non-transferable states of consciousness, or reaching a high level of concentration, is possible thanks to the Hindu teachings that are imparted in these communities. In India, yoga is often practiced outdoors, in nature, as the elements of the environment easily connect with our 'self'. However, there is no cause for concern, as the 'ashram' always contains open spaces. Spiritual teachers-guides share their knowledge of new techniques or refinement of existing ones and are always a point of support on the path.

The cultural and geographical diversity of India also offers the opportunity to get to know some of the other points of interest in the area, without forgetting factors such as its gastronomy or landscapes. Namaskar India Tour offers a total yoga and meditation experience in the 'yoga capital of the world, Rishikesh. Famous worldwide for having been the spiritual retreat of the Beatles in the 60s, it is a city located in an exceptional setting in the north of the country. Yoga tours are also available in the southern state of Kerala, known as 'God's Own Land', where nature is on full display. In this area, there are plenty of holistic Ayurveda treatments to harmonize body, mind, and spirit.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that there are many types of yoga in India based on different techniques and disciplines according to their school. However, some being more common than others, the different doctrines have the same goal: to achieve the perfect balance between body and mind to lead a fulfilling life, satisfying the physical, psychological, and spiritual needs.

The global importance of yoga was recognized in 2014, when the United Nations proclaimed 21 June as "International Yoga Day" after India proposed the draft resolution and received the support of 175 Member States. The celebration of this day serves to raise awareness of the benefits of practicing yoga.
