YMS(Yard Management Solution)

A yard management system (YMS) is a software system designed to supervise the movement of trucks and trailers in the yard of a manufacturing facility, warehouse, or distribution center. YMS provides real-time information on the location of trailers in the yard & allows yard employees to move trailers from staging to docks to fill orders in an efficient manner.YMS is often used in conjunction with warehouse management systems (WMS) & transportation management systems (TMS) It may also have radio frequency identification (RFID) technology built in for faster and more accurate tracking.

Manual: Use Spreadsheet, Clipboards and Walkie-Talkie.

Siloed: Companies use YMS that is not integrated with their ware house management system

Loose tracking of trailer aging can lead to detention & demurrage charges. Furthermore, poor yard management can reduce sales when inbound goods sit in the yard instead of filling customer orders.

On busy days when trailers may be shuffled from one location to the next, it can be easy to forget or simply choose not to record trailer moves. RTLS automatically records these moves, serving as a safety net for any trailers that may not show up on the radar for one reason or another. To deploy YMS, to find the right mix of barcodes, RFID, & Wi- Fi sensors, solution provider must first decide the speed, distance and accuracy they need in an automatic identification - data collection system. (AIDC).AIDC & technologies & applications are evolving so rapidly that’s it is hard to know where to start?
