The Yippy Elephant in the Room

The Yippy Elephant in the Room

The elephant in the room is that we could eat our way out of the climate crisis. Read how critical elephants are for maintaining rainforests, and how poetic their positive impact on the forest is.

If we can harness our consumption as a tool, not only is it an easier way to solve the problem, but it also has drastically more positive impacts on mental health.

Here is the story I see emerging:

  1. Cutting edge Calgarian technology like Nimble Science creates a baseline for the human gut enmasse (you can help them by participating in this study), and tying it to mental health in ways previously impossible
  2. Because of its superior mental health benefits, climate activist organizations redouble their attention to supporting regenerative farming groups like YYC Growers and Distributors (message me or comment if you want my time-saving recipe hacks, or follow my Instagram @theuncookedpoet)
  3. Innovative non-profit organizations like Peer Mediation And Skills Training work with schools and justice systems to reframe the crisis as a conflict driven by bad eating, leveraging the best of mental health science from organizations like Branch Out Neurological Foundation and PEERX.AI to help scale impact measurement
  4. Disruptors like Sun Country Highway accelerate the process by accelerating competitive pressure on established supply chains like they did with electric vehicles
  5. Calgary is a leader in implementation through its efficient network of organized, grassroots volunteers supported by the Federation of Calgary Communities (and our altogether can-do attitude)

We could eat our way out of the climate crisis, unless of course, we like crisis for the adrenaline rush it gives. I know I do, probably because I don't play enough games and participate in enough extreme sports. How do we wean ourselves off of an addiction to drama and disaster? Anyone want to go dancing this weekend?

What a great call to action. Your article is a great example of the tip of icebergs that are all moving together to create lasting impact. Choose the place that calls to you and dive deep. We can each do our part imperfectly and enthusiastically.
