Yin-Yang

Since time immemorial, humans have been fascinated with energy dynamics. One of the great energy dynamics is Yin-Yang. Originated in China in the 3rd century BCE, it still reverberates with humanity even more strongly than it used to two thousand years ago. Yin represents earth, femaleness, darkness, passivity, and absorption. While Yang represents heaven, maleness, light, activity, and penetration. Both look contrary, yet so interconnected that the existence of one without the other is unimaginable. Both balance each other too.
To our progressive mind, it may sound like stereotyping or painting with a broad brush. But it is there. I can’t change a philosophical school of thought just like that! No matter what you think, you can feel the energy dynamics around you.
The threat of war forces us to overlook differences and find a middle ground for the sake of peace. The expectation of future sadness forces us to cherish small bits of happiness in the present moment. In a classic Hollywood romantic movie Jerry Maguire - starring Tom Cruise. A dialogue by Jerry to Dorothy, “you complete me” tells a lot about the need to be together yet different from each other.
I feel it’s your job to balance your life. You may be going through a bad phase or a happy phase of your life at the moment. Just know that it’s going to get balanced at the end. People talk about karma these days. It’s a pop culture thing now. They mention it in their Instagram bios. It has turned into a buzzword. Many people assume the meaning of Karma as “You reap what you sow” or “Your actions will define what you will get in life”. Although that interpretation is partially true in modern times, the literal meaning of karma is “Action”.
Life is about action. Simple acts can have a profound effect. That’s why many self-help authors talk about getting 1% better each day to have a compounding effect on your life. The actions you perform in your day-to-day life will become your karma.

The Yin-Yang Philosophy talks about two entities that are opposite in nature and still exist together. In fact, they can’t exist without each other. Our life is also like Yin-Yang. Full of ironies. We want peace. ?Once we get it, we want a thrill. We want money. But once we get it, we lose value in materialism. The same goes for many things in our life. We get bored of monotony. We want change. It’s high time we acknowledge the existence of ironies of life and live with them.
Our life is a flow. A stream of consciousness materializing based on our actions. Our life should be about balance. Balance of self and balance of nature. There is darkness to remind you of the existence of light. There is death to remind you of the value of life. Focus on your Yin-yang. Unlock your inner consciousness.
